We offer education in English from pre-school (Aged 3) in our Nursery and Reception classes, through Primary and Secondary to age 16. Our pupils take the British exams: iGCSE’s at age 16. We have children from 30 different nationalities united by one common language: English.
Relocating to Spain?
Many parents who are considering re-locating to Spain make their choice of school their number 1 priority. Here are some reasons why The Olive Tree School might be the best choice for your child.
We offer a very good ratio of British trained teachers and teaching assistants to the pupils under their care. Class sizes are restricted to a maximum of 20 children.
Our Nursery & Reception class has a maximum teacher to child ratio of 1:8 making sure each child gets the individual attention required.
Children can join our Nursery class at age 3 with no prior knowledge of English. We operate a total immersion methodology in English, so that children who progress through our Nursery & Reception classes acquire English language skills so that they enter our Primary school with an excellent level of comprehension and oral expression.
Approximately one third of our pupils are from the local community, one third come from families where English is their native language, and one third are from the international community, as our region is a very popular residencial choice for those relocating to Spain.
What makes our Primary school special?
At Primary level each class has their own British-trained Primary teacher and a teaching assistant. Literacy and numeracy are prioritised through project based learning rather than a text book approach. Our teachers interpret the British curriculum in a creative and inspiring way so that every class is optimised and each child’s learning path is set to aim high. We set high expectations for every child.
Since every child’s needs are different, this requires an approach which is pupil centred.
Some children with have special educational needs. Our dedicated SEND team helps to diagnose any learning dififculties, such as dyslexia or discalulia. If a child requires extra support in any specific area, individual support classes are provided with specialist SEND teachers.
Our after school clubs provide children in both Primary and Secondary with a wide range of choice, including musical theatre, dance, taekwondo, basketball amongst many other activities promoting collaboration, creativity and physical development.
What makes our Secondary school special?
At Secondary level our pupils progress in an environment with is friendly and caring. Our school has around 200 pupils, which means we know every child as an individual. Pupil Welfare is taken seriously.
Reading widely is promoted and encouraged through our book clubs and our well-stocked libraries, one full of books to inspire and delight our younger pupils at Primary level, and another designed to appeal to young adolescents at Secondary level.
Our Secondary pupils are challenged to reach high. A group of them attend MUN (Model United Nations) to develop their debating skills, and all are encouraged to develop a sense of global awareness.
Our school offers a warm, friendly environment with active parent involvement including Open Classrooms once a month where we invite parents to come in to see the work their children have done. Our parent run Events Committee organises a series of social events throughout the school year including the ever popular International Food Day
Finally, and maybe most importantly of all, our history of excellent results in the iGCSE exams taken by our pupils is testimony to the fact that a creative approach to education leads to academic success and a balanced development.
