Welfare in Secondary

Welfare is a priority for our pupils aged 11 - 16: a secure, happy young adult is also a great learner.

A trusted tutor

A pupil always begins the day with the same tutor; warm, strong bonds are built daily. A private talk with the tutor is always prioritized if a pupil would like this.

Mentoring

Each pupil has a trained mentor they see every 2 weeks. The mentor provides a safe, non-judgmental space where pupils can talk through their choices, successes and worries.

Pupìls are also welcome to ask their mentor for an additional meeting and guidance anytime they need this.

Open door policy with our three heads

Sometimes, our pupils also seek guidance and support from the two secondary headteachers. These senior teachers have an open-door policy, where any necessary emotional support is given to a pupil as a matter of priority.

School psychologist

We have a child / young adult psychologist in school. Laura is bilingual in English and Spanish.

She is available for private sessions with a pupil in those cases where additional professional support is beneficial.

Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE), 1 hour per week

Our sensitively designed program is aimed to provide the facts and a safe space for debating the main questions that concern young adults: identity, relationships, social pressures, staying safe and healthy, and any other issues a particular group chooses to explore.

Young Women’s Talk Club

In this optional club, girls between 11-16 explore what it means to be a young woman today. They discuss their own concerns and the pressures they experience as young women; gender equality; the predicament of girls and women around the world, etc. They create art and writings to express their ideas.

LGBTQ+ Club

In this voluntary attendance club, pupils examine facts and opinions around gender identity, sexual orientation, and equality, exploring and sharing their own reflections.
