A warm welcome back for Summer Term!
We hope you have had a lovely break with your children.
We had a very busy and creative Spring Term, with a wonderful Science Week including visiting speakers and pupils' project work; a film on the Tudors made by Year 3; a new, beautiful pupil-run magazine (The Branch) in secondary, graffiti art flourishing around the school, and many other exciting initiatives and projects.
Now we head into lovely Summer Term, with some great things on the agenda.
Whole School
End of compulsory masks in schools from tomorrow
Tomorrow marks a change in direction: the government has announced that masks need no longer be worn in schools.
We welcome this move and believe it will improve communication and relations in countless ways.
However, we are also aware that some children and young adults might feel a certain apprehension after two years of mask-wearing.
We will allow everyone to go at their own pace in terms of removing their mask: pupils will have the choice of removing their mask completely from tomorrow, of removing it at those times they choose, or of remaining masked in situations where they feel more comfortable.
Our community will respect individual choice in this matter as we guide pupils through this transition.
Please let us know if you have any concerns about this new directive. On the whole, we hope you agree it is very welcome.
Our Peace Garden opens tomorrow
Secondary pupils have designed a lovely place to sit quietly and read or think.
The Peace Garden has now been built and planted with flowering shrubs: it will be open to all ages at breaktimes.
It can also be used for class reading and storytelling led by a teacher.
After-school clubs, start in Week 2
Clubs begin in Week 2, the first full week back.
The exception to this are: LAMDA, Musical Theatre, instrumental lessons and Taekwondo, which begin this week.
School Council
The School Council is made up of pupil representatives from each class: a boy and a girl.
They meet monthly to discuss ways to improve the school.
Recent improvements requested and put in place include a new water fountain in secondary, more goal posts, high netting to stop footballs going astray and an LGBT+ library in secondary.
Open Classrooms for our families
Friday 29th April, 3.45
You are welcome to this monthly visit into your child's classroom to be shown their recent work.
If this date does not suit you, please arrange with the tutor for another day to drop in at this time and have your child show you what s/he has been learning.
May Day, a public holiday

Half-term break
Monday 16th - Wednesday 18th May
School is closed for a short mid-term break.
Peter Pan, a devised piece
Thursday 2nd June, 2.30 in our theatre
Years 5 & 6; Years 7 & 8 and Years 9 & 11 who have chosen GCSE Drama are invited.
Final year IAB Acting BA students have created this experimental piece of theatre.
Musical Theatre shows
Families will shortly be invited to buy tickets for these lovely shows.

We are excited to announce that the Events Committee is preparing these two family events for us to celebrate together in our gardens this term:

· Summer Garden Party- date in June to be confirmed

Closer to the dates, you will be invited to a meeting to explain how colonias will work and what to pack in your child's bag.

First half-term

These classes will have a sports afternoon every week from now until half-term break: athletics, baseball, and football at Vilanova beach.
Earth Day Hike to the Ermita de la Trinitat, Garraf - Friday 22nd
This Friday, Years 7-10 will go on an all-day hike in the parque natural del Garraf to celebrate this special day.
The walk will include Geography and Botany activities.
Year 9 visit to the Museu Maricel, Spanish Civil War exhibition - Wed 4th May

Museu de la Historia de Cataluña
Secondary pupils will visit this fascinating museum in the port in Barcelona. Date to be confirmed.
Colonias 8th-11th June
Years 7-10 will spend 3 nights away.
You will be sent more information soon, including details of what to pack.
Secondary Arts Week
20th - 22nd June
Our annual celebration of the arts, in our gardens. This year, we welcome secondary families to events once again!
Years 7, 8 and 9 will each perform a Shakespeare play: Macbeth, The Tempest and Romeo & Juliet.
There will also be a gallery of beautiful artwork and poetry and music recitals.
Pupils will hear visiting speakers from the arts world and take part in various workshops, etc.
We can't wait!
