Dear families,

We hope you have had a wonderful half-term break and carnival.

First, a few words on coronavirus.

We have asked those families returning from northern Italy to observe quarantine and to be tested as soon as possible at their medical centre for the virus. If the results are negative, they will return to school.

The advice for families continues to be:

  • frequent handwashing with soap for about 20 seconds / the length of time it takes to sing Happy Birthday twice
  • keeping your child at home if they have a cough, fever, or breathing difficulties
  • asking for a swab test for you and your family if you suspect the new virus (whose symptoms are high fever, dry cough and respiratory difficulties)

In school, we will take all pupils to wash their hands thoroughly every hour.

We may also ask families to collect your child if they have a dry cough or other viral symptoms.

We are in close contact with the local health system and with the department of education, and will follow any guidelines they set.

One final word. Some children are becoming very anxious about this virus, constantly asking how far it has advanced. Perhaps we should try and keep our own concerns in check when speaking to children. A simple reminder to wash their hands hourly is essential, but we are sure you will agree that a growing anxiety in children is to be avoided.

Thank you.
